Siblings duo JOCO is playing seven concerts all over Germany – and they’re really worth a listen.

If you don’t know them you should do yourself a favour and get familiar with these women. Josepha and Cosima Carl from Hamburg make comfortable, intriguing indie-pop and singer-songwriter tunes held beautifully together by their wide-ranging,spellbinding voices. They sound so naturally relaxed and effortless: guitar, piano and percussion – it’s all very simple, and they play all accompanying instruments themselves. They have something very special; there’s an interesting mystery in the music – an edge of some kind that makes this music sparkle.

There’s an interesting mystery in the music

From an early age both girls experimented with various instruments and found their way into music. After graduating from the Artez Conservatorium they founded JOCO – combining the first two letters of their first names – and shortly after signed with Sony Music Entertainment. It’s been a quick ride forwards for them ever since. Horizon, the debut album, came out in 2015 and was recorded in the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London – mixed and produced by the also legendary Grammy Award-winning Steve Orchard (Björk, U2, Coldplay, and Paul McCartney).

Same year as the debut album was released JOCO received a VDKD award (Musikpreis des Verbandes der Deutschen Konzertdirektionen). Yes, these women are talented. Last year they released the second album Into The Deep which confirms the core of JOCO’s unique sound – and simultaneously shows new musical developments presenting an even more solid soundscape compared to the first album.

JOCO plays live in Freepsum (twice), Bremen, Hanover, Munich, Dresden, and at Bergfunk Open Air this summer, so there are lots of chances to see these women live.
