Australian Tash Sultana has something that needs to be caught live. She is a powerhouse. Gigs all over the world – and in Cologne and Berlin. But you’ll seriously have to hurry up if you want tickets for any of these shows. Read on and you’ll understand why…

If you don’t know her it’s about time. Tash Sultana has this cool band. But alone. Solo. She does everything on her own – layer on top of layer. She masters more than fifteen instruments. And she’s only 23 years old.

It all started when her grandfather gave her a guitar. Back then she was only three. And it was true love at first try. She taught herself everything and started playing the streets of Melbourne – and open mics using a fake id. When homemade videos of her went viral everything happened very fast. One year later she was selling out shows around the globe, winning awards, and getting great reviews.

And it’s no wonder. Tash Sultana’s concerts are full of amazing energy, stage presence, sincere happiness, and joy. Every song takes time because of the build-up; layer on top of layer. Taking the time for a track to develop seems rare these days. Tash Sultana gets away with it. She’s got a great feeling of how to do this. It’s her way.

A personal style

The style is quite unique. According to Tash, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, and alt-J are among the musicians who inspire her a lot. And yes, the styles of all of these major artists can be detected in Tash Sultana’s music. But it’s hard to put a specific label on her style. It’s a crossover.

Her voice is beautiful and full of contrasts – using it in various ways she brings out emotions with everything from airy tenderness and sensuality to dark strength and directness. It’s intertwined perfectly with the music.

Check out Tash Sultana. If you’re lucky, you’ll get your hands on some tickets. If not, you’ll be ready for the next time she tours around this part of the globe. Gigs in Cologne on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of September and in Berlin on the 10th and 11th. Check out her Facebook page or webpage for more infos.
